Charles Robert Burgen went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ March 5, 2019 peacefully at his home.
Awaiting him in heaven were several loved ones including Mom and Dad, wife Brenda, daughter Carmen Oppewal, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Charles (Chuck) served his country by enlisting in the Navy when he was 17 which he was proud to do. He spent most of his life as a West Sider where he was a foreman at American Seating. Charles’ favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
He is survived by one son, Charles Raymond Burgen: wife Tina, daughter Valerie Makepeace: Step-children Jody Hough, Lisa Hough; 4 brothers, Richard (Marcia) Burgen, Kenneth (Ruthie) Burgen, Greg (Deb) Burgen, Mike and Kristine Laarman; 3 sisters, Debra Perkins (Burgen), Linda Hole (Burgen), Shari and Cris Lara; many grandchildren, great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces as well as two good neighbors who were like family to Charles, Johnny Bahena and his mother Mrs. Nuygen and her family.
Charles enjoyed racing Car #13, golfing, fishing, hunting and fantasy football with his brothers and nephews. He was a member of American Legion.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm at New Life, 2777 Knapp St NE Grand Rapids MI 49525, Pastor Lonnie Shields officiating.
Flowers can be delivered to the church or in lieu of flowers donations in Charles' memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.
