Douglas Miner Jester, aged 55, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, September 2, 2018 surrounded by his beloved and devoted family. He is survived by his wife, Patty, his children, Abby, Madelyn, Alexandria Jester (Asa Gervich), Austin (Mandy) Jester, Ian (Katherine) Jester, grandchildren Lillia and Findley, as well as his three sisters, Rebecca Jester (Rick Woodard), Pam (Jim)Young, Brenda (Kraig) Spayde, his brother Robert Jester and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Barbara Jester, and his brother, Hal.
Doug was diagnosed with esophageal cancer two months ago and battled it with amazing courage and a relentless joy, always choosing to focus on the positive. During that time he spent as much time as possible with his family and friends. He loved visiting with everyone and was always in good spirits. He brought a smile to your face anytime you were with him. He loved listening to his favorite music including Jimmy Buffet and Drake and ate plenty of ice cream!
Doug was a self-described ‘simple man'. Family, friends and faith were the foundation of his joy and peace. He loved being out in nature, be it with a fishing pole in hand or just simply relaxing in the beauty of it. He was an avid golfer, an enthusiastic party participant and enjoyed watching hockey and football. Doug graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School and was a dedicated worker at Steelcase for over 30 years, where he was a friend to all.
Doug was a loving husband, an incredible dad and grandfather, a caring and fun brother and uncle, a devoted friend, and a faithful Christian. Above all Doug was a legend and an inspiration. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of his life will take place Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at Ada Bible Church, 3869 Knapp St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Doug Jester Donation Account at any Lake Michigan Credit Union, established to help his daughters Abby and Madelyn with education costs.
