Edward Vander Sloot, aged 101, went to his heavenly home on February 7, 2018. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Lucile, and his granddaughter Caitlyn Vander Sloot. Ed will be missed by his children, Nancy (Tom) Kaastra, Susan (John) Rand, Jane (Jerry) Orent, Mark (Lori) Vander Sloot and Jeff Vander Sloot; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. After Ed retired from General Motors, Fisher Body, he and Lucy enjoyed many trips out west and to Florida in their pick-up camper. When not traveling, he could be found in his backyard vegetable and flower gardens, or walking the railroad tracks behind the house. Another favorite walk was the 9 mile round trip in to downtown Grand Rapids. There he would visit the library, fish ladder, barbershop or check out new building projects. Lucy might not have known exactly where he was but she always knew he’d be home for supper. The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Fulton Manor and Leah from Faith Hospice for their care and compassion shown to our dad. A celebration of Ed’s life will be Sunday, February 18 at 1:30 pm in the chapel at Holland Home Fulton Manor, 1450 East Fulton NE. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holland Home Fulton Manor.
