Eileen Lang Obituary

Sunday May 26, 2019 in the early evening light of a beautiful spring day our mom, yo mama, mamacita, wife, sister, aunt, friend and our loving ardent supporter Eileen Elizabeth O'Hara Lang had a peaceful ending to an arduous and near lifetime battle with cancer. She passed away in the comfort of her home with her husband Bob, daughters Jennifer and Katie, sister Kathy, and best friend Jan by her side.

Eileen was born to the late John F. O'Hara and Mary C. O'Hara in Plainfield, NJ on 10-14-49. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary O'Hara, her in-laws Arthur and Helen Lang, her nursing school friend and fellow prankster Judy Shearer, sister-in-law Sharon (Emmett) O'Hara, Nursing colleague and friend Beth and her husband Paul Tatreau, her nephew Mike (Michael and Sue) O'Hara, her sister-in-law Darcey (Brian) O'Hara, and her brother in-laws: Don (Elaine) Keller, Ed (Paula and Juella) Keller, Jack (Pat) Keller, Harold Lang, Eric (Mildred) Nelson.

Eileen aka Leener, is survived by her loving husband Bob Lang who was her tireless supporter throughout their marriage and to the end of her fight, Daughter Jennifer Eaton, Son-in-law Jason Eaton, Daughter Katie Lang, Daughter-in-law Heidi Grappendorf, and 3 loving grandchildren: Riley, Liam, and Emersyn. As well as the entire O'Hara clan starting with her sister the matriarch Kathleen (Pete) Crame followed by her 8 brothers: Emmett (Chang) O'Hara, John O'Hara, Miles O'Hara, Dennis (Patty) O'Hara, Michael (Sue) O'Hara, Patrick (Tina) O'Hara, Timothy (Michelle) O'Hara, and Brian (Darcey) O'Hara, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Additionally she is survived by her Brother-in-laws Art (Carol) Lang and Tom (Roz) Lang and many loving friends, neighbors, cousins, and colleagues.

Eileen was the mother of all mothers, a faithful partner in life, a sister and aunt to the masses (Irish Catholic masses to be exact). She was a compassionate and quick witted nurse, a friend to all who possessed unsurpassed grace and humility immediately putting all who met her at ease. Her fiery Irish Jersey girl personality, penchant for "Eileenisms", and mouth of a sailor all coalesced into a strong independent woman. Her self-confidence and self-reliance developed quickly among the motley crew of the O'Hara clan, self-preservation at its finest. These innate qualities set the stage for her time at Mercy School of Nursing in Cadillac where she met and took part in spirited shenanigans with her lifelong friends (Janet Bidwell, Linda Helminiak, and Judy Shearer) and where she charmed her future husband Bob Lang, a local farm boy. While honing her nursing skills in the early part of her career she also honed her trademark mix of cynicism and sarcasm, humor and reverence which carried her through her life. Eileen alongside her faithful husband Bob, elected that which was never a choice but rather a foregone conclusion, to have and raise a family. She thrived on her most enduring role of Mother to Jenny and Katie and Grandmother to Riley, Liam, and Emersyn. Above all she instilled in her family love, laughter, wit, warmth, sarcasm, kindness, compassion, strength, a love of reading and music, and a deep regard for all living things and the human condition. Godspeed mom, we are smiling up at you, eternally thankful you are now resting peacefully.
