John Banks Carlson, age 94, passed away on January 4, 2020.
John was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Amvets, Post #30. After his service role was finished, he worked at Bell Telephone as a salesman, and went on to become a librarian at Montcalm Community College until his retirement in 1990. He was a volunteer for 35 years in AA, which was a very important part of his life. John was a voracious reader, and buyer and giver of used books. He loved to see people read.
John was predeceased by his wife, Margaret. He will be lovingly remembered by Gloria Lamey; daughter, Robin (Seif); sons, Eric (Jamie), Matthew (Torie); stepdaughter, Beth Potter (Sean Wilmut); stepson, Ralph Potter; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the American Legion Post #154, 2327 Byron Center Rd., Wyoming. The family will greet visitors from 11 – 11:30 a.m., with a short tribute at 11:30 a.m. that will be followed by lunch and visitation until 1:30 p.m.
