Philip Ammond II Obituary

Philip C. Ammond, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 8, 2018 comforted by his family, medical staff at Clark Retirement Community and Great Lakes Caring Hospice.   He was born January 7, 1928 and grew up in Muskegon, Michigan. As a young man he joined the US Army and served in the Korean War. He married after the war and lived his married years in Grand Rapids, working as a tool and die engineer.

He will be remembered as a very laid back and optimistic person who made family his top priority.  He enjoyed many activities with his children including water skiing, bike riding, fishing and camping, just to list a few.  He was a wonderful dad and devoted spouse.  Phil is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Ann Lawrence Ammond and four of his five children, Lisa Larsen (Mike), David Ammond (deceased), Chuck Ammond (Linda), Ted Ammond (Stacey) and Suzi Shirley (Sean). He has 7 grandchildren: Kristina Larsen, David Larsen, Michaela Stevens, Emma Ammond, Tess Ammond, Brittany Shirley and Devin Shirley.  He is also survived by his sisters, Alice Storck, Mary Biesiada and his brother Tom.

He enjoyed many years playing handball, running, biking, and swimming at the Downtown YMCA and the Michigan Athletic Club.

He spent his last few months at Clark Retirement Community in Grand Rapids. His body was donated to the University of Michigan Medical School for medical education and research.
