Richard (Dick) Dale Townsend, age 72, died on August 8, 2018 after a long battle of complications. He was born November 22, 1945, in Muskegon Michigan to Marie and Billy Townsend.
Dick was a Grandville High School graduate and a great wrestler that made it to the State Championship, then went on to serve his country in Vietnam from 1965-1967. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and was an expert in the Rifle M14. He then went on to be a Tool and Die Maintenance and Repair Specialist in the automotive industry. He lived out his life enjoying golf, riding his motorcycle, and working on his Corvette.
He is preceded by his parents Marie (Fleming) and Billy Townsend and his brother James Townsend.
He is survived by his daughters Kendra Townsend, Shana Townsend Wilson, his Grandsons Austin (AJ) Wilson and Shane Wilson, his partner Vicki Molette of 16 years, and her grandchildren, and his Sisters Carol Zimmer, Sandy and husband Dick Alberts, Nancy Timmer and Alma and husband Tom Hofstra.
Cremation has taken place. There will not be a public memorial service. He will be buried at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI, to honor his service to his Country. There will be a Celebration of Life Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 3354 S. Dangl Rd. Muskegon, MI 49444. Flowers and any donations to Spectrum Hospice and the VFW can be made at that time.
