Alyce Joan Meyers (nee Bos), 92, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 6, 2023. She was born on August 23, 1931, in Antrim County, Michigan. Joan was a very beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her daughters Karen Grupa Gish, Kim (Bruce) Ayers, Lois (Dave) Logan, and son Steve Grupa, 20 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Keven Dean Meyers, husbands John Stanley Grupa Jr. and Ronald Dean Meyers, parents John and Hattie Bos, her siblings and their spouses Hildegarde (Vern) Scheerhorn, Freda (Bill) Coeling, Henry Bos and Adrian (Evelyn) Bos.
She attended Hope and Davenport colleges, and worked many years in the insurance business. Joan was a woman of faith and worshiped at North Park Presbyterian Church. She found solace and strength in her religious community and served in many capacities over the years including elder, deacon, handbell choir, regular choir, administrative assistant, and was active in various women’s groups, the Needlers, Schooner’s and regularly worked in the yearly fundraising sales. She was an avid game and card player, enjoyed sewing banners for church, and was always welcome at any church or family event where she could bring her famous beer bread and potato salad. All her life she dedicated much of her time to helping others, whether caring for her extended family or caregiving and volunteering for her church family.
