Angeline Georgacakes Obituary

Angeline Georgacakes, age 95 of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord sometime in the night of March 12, 2021, after living for 60 years in the home she and her husband Dean built in 1961. She was born in Aurora, Illinois on August 16, 1925 to her parents, Arthur and Panayiota (Sarris) Paulos. She lived her immigrant parents' dream for her of a better life in America. Angie lived in Cadillac, Michigan during her teenage years, graduating from Cadillac High School. She met her future husband at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Grand Rapids, and was married in 1948. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dean Georgacakes, her brother Gus Paulos, and her son-in-law David Lemmink. She will be lovingly remembered by her son John George, son Paul Georgacakes (Cheryl), daughter Constance Georgacakes Lemmink, eleven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.

Angie took great pride and joy in her family. She was the last of her family's 26 first cousins. She loved keeping track of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's accomplishments and immensely enjoyed their frequent visits. She was able to get out for shopping and trips to the library up until the last few months of her life.

Angie love to travel, and took many trips, both domestic and abroad, with her husband and countless friends. She also loved reading, and one of her earliest memories was of sitting in the window well of the Aurora public library reading one of her beloved books. She remained a voracious reader right to the end, going through many magazines, with always a few books simultaneously in the mix. She was also happy doing crossword puzzles, and before the age of internet downloads, used to share doing the paper's crossword with her husband. He would start at the upper left and go through the center to the lower right, leaving her the upper right to the lower left. She was also an excellent cook, and for many years took pride in having the entire family over for dinner every Sunday after Church.

Angie lived a simple life, yet with a tapestry too rich to be covered in so little space.

Angie was, until recently, an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, and of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society, for over 70 years, Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 330 Lakeside Dr NE. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 PM (noon) until the time of the service.
