Anthony Daniel Huckleberry

Anthony Daniel Huckleberry, aged 60 of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away at home on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Byron Huckleberry, brother-in-law Bernie Kaufman, and nephew Cody Ambrose.

Anthony is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary Jane Huckleberry; mother, Margaret May Huckleberry; brothers, Thomas Huckleberry, Phillip (Judy) Huckleberry, James (Tonda) Huckleberry and Ted (Krista) Huckleberry; children, Bobby Boorsma, Mindy (Mark) Faubion, Casie (Steve) Hanson, Brandon (Amber) Huckleberry; eight grandchildren and twelve nieces and nephews.

Tony grew up on the west side of Grand Rapids, attended Sacred Heart Elementary, and graduated from Union High School in 1983. He met Mary Jane in 1993 and they married in 1995. They lived for twenty-five years in Colorado.

While Tony did not have biological children, he married Mary Jane when she had four young children and he stepped in to raise them as his own, becoming their primary father figure for most of their lives. To him, they were simply his children.

He will be remembered by his children for how he was at his best – laughing at his own jokes, cooking breakfast before school, and teaching them life skills like how to fix things. He encouraged them in their pursuits and wanted them to succeed and have more opportunities than he himself had. In both quiet and meaningful ways – whether showing up, providing what he could, or simply being there to talk to – he showed that he cared for his family.

In the end, one of the most important lessons he left was how much well-being shapes a person’s ability to stay connected to the people they love. He will be remembered in full – the good, the hard, and everything in between.

Family and friends are invited to a time to remember Tony on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 3-7 pm at VFW Old Kent Post 830, 557 11th Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.
