Arthur Jay Van Tol of Grandville, MI, age 76, is now resting in the loving arms of his Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ. He passed with grace and dignity at his home on October 23, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
Arthur was born in Doon, IA to Arie and Christine (Termaat) Van Tol on February 24, 1944. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Calvin College and his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University. He proudly served the Grand Rapids Police Department for 31 years before retiring at the rank of Sergeant. After retirement, Arthur managed a subsidized housing complex in Kentwood, Michigan.
Arthur had a passion for Scrabble and traveled across the country to participate in numerous National Scrabble Tournaments. He was an avid Detroit Lions and Tigers fan.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Hubert James.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (nee) Smith; children, Rene (Bryan) Watkins, Dean (Charee) Van Tol, Melissa (Scott) Cool, Elizabeth Nydam, Jason Pearcey, and Andrea (Brian) Stickler; five brothers and two sisters; 15 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a small family memorial was held on October 27, 2020, at Rockford Reformed Church.
