Barbara Carter

Barbara Carter, beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on May 25th, 2023 at the age of 87.

Barbara was born on October 5th, 1935. She attended college, earning a BA in special education, while working full time at the post office. She also dedicated time to charity, delivering for meals on wheels among other endeavors. Despite her full schedule, she always made time for her family; taking them to museums, festivals, and more, ensuring they had many fond experiences to look back on.

Barbara was an intelligent, strong, and independent woman who never shied away from speaking her mind, often with a good dose of sass! Her biting wit was tempered by a sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She accomplished much in her life and was an inspiration to all around her.

She was predeceased by her mother, Florence Wanatowicz, her daughters Kathleen Carter and Theresa Carter, and her son Stephen Carter. She is survived by her daughters Rebekah Carter and Renee Carter Orr (Steve), her granddaughters Rachael Hirst (Jerry Kennedy) and Stephanie Tempinson (Don), Shannon Brower (Jason), her grandsons Christopher Failing and Grant Hirst (Sarah), 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Barbara’s legacy will continue through the family, who are all as intelligent and sassy as she was. She will be greatly missed, but her indomitable spirit will live on in them.
