Barbara Jo (Brooks) Shearer

Barbara Jo Shearer (Brooks) of Allendale, Michigan, age 57, passed away in her home on March 19th, 2024.  A wife, mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, and friend who loved with all her heart and was loved by many. She was preceded in death by her parents Carol Josephine and Arthur Gerard Brooks, and her sister Sheila Jane Brooks. She looks down upon many loved ones including her husband of 32 years John Jay Shearer, children Caroline Grace Brooks, Sarah Elizabeth and Jeffrey Keith Huyser, and son Jason Allen and Meghan Marie Shearer. She will forever be missed by her grandsons Liam James and Cameron John Huyser. She left behind many loving siblings: William (Julie) Brooks, Arthur (Lindsey) Brooks, Rebecca Simonds, Kim Brooks Holly, Darah Hoover, Dawn (Woodrow) Parker, and Sherry McGee. The family and friends whose lives she impacted is endless, she loved all her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephew, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family was not about a bloodline; it was about a lifeline that she shared with everyone. 

Barbara loved concerts, casinos, games of all kinds, crafts, bowling, and spending every minute she could with those she loved. She worked hard and took pride in her job. She taught her loved ones the meaning of hard work and dedication. Barbara was the definition of generosity without expectation.

A visitation will be held on April 5th, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Alternative Burial (2432 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505). A service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are also welcome to gather at Main Street Pub in Allendale after the service to share stories and laughs. Barbara took a part of everyone in her life to heaven with her that day and will be missed more than words can express.
