Darryl Payne Obituary

Darryl Roger Payne, age 65 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed into the arms of his heavenly father on Saturday, January 8, 2022. He is loved much and will be missed by his family and friends.

Lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years, Karen. His four children Lindsay (Andy) Schwenke, Ashley (Nick) Sands, Bethany (Cody) Vanholstyn, Jeremy Payne (Bri Stiles), and six grandchildren – Caiden, Lyla, Jackson, Parker, Harrison, and Carter.

Survived by his twin brother, Danny, and brothers Mike (Lois) DeVaney and Ronald (Ruthanne) Fretland.

Preceded by his parents Alonzo and Edna Payne of Washington.

Larger than life personality with the loudest voice you could imagine! Darryl was a joy-filled Christian Grampy who made sure each grandchild felt special. He hooted and hollered at his grandkids’ events or games. A big football fan of the Michigan Wolverines, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Huskies, and New England Patriots.

All will miss his quirky “Darrylisms.” Favorite pastime: conversing with ANYONE – family, friends, or strangers. Looked forward to family camping near Mackinaw City, serving meals at Mel Trotter Mission, and active in BNI group.

Forever there will be a hole in our lives. Yet now he is released from suffering and joined with God, family, and friends. Until we meet again in Heaven.

A celebration of Darryl Payne's life will be held at 10:30 am at Calvary Church, in the Chapel, 707 East Beltline on Saturday, January 15th.

Fellowship begins at 10:30 -11:30 followed by a celebration service of remembering the life he lived.
