David Lee Zimmerman, born on October 11, 1951, in Hillsdale, Michigan, passed away on October 30, 2025, at the age of 74. David dedicated many years of his life working at Stock's Mill in Hillsdale, where he was known for his strong work ethic and funny personality.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, David served during the Vietnam War era. In his later years, he resided at the Michigan Home for Veterans in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There, he remained an active and valued member of the community, volunteering in the clothing room and offering his time and care to fellow residents. His kindness, generosity, and sense of service left a lasting impact on those around him.
David is survived by his two sons: Matthew (Holly) Zimmerman of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Brent (Yuka) Zimmerman of California; his sister, Ann, of Sycamore, Illinois; and four beloved grandchildren: Dorian and Brianna from Matthew, and Maysen and Mya from Brent. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, with whom he cherished spending time and sharing stories. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Harriet Zimmerman, and his brother, George Zimmerman.
David found great joy in nature walks and photography, often capturing the quiet beauty of the world around him. One of his favorite places to visit was Grotto Park, located near the Michigan Home for Veterans, where he spent many peaceful moments surrounded by nature. His appreciation for life's simple moments and his gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
David's remains will be laid to rest at the Michigan Home for Veterans Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow. Service details are currently pending and will be shared with family and friends at a later date.
