Deborah Rae (McKay) Vander Wood

Mrs. Deborah Rae Vander Wood (née McKay), age 70, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born on May 14, 1954, in the same city she called home throughout her life, Deborah was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched many.

Deborah is lovingly remembered by her husband, David L. Vander Wood; her daughters, Jennifer Vander Wood, Jessica Vander Wood, and Jillian Vander Wood; her son, Thomas Vander Wood; her sister, Diane Williams; her grandsons, Cullen Vander Wood, Logan Burns and Hadrien Burns; and her granddaughter Jordyn Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joann Fay and Thomas McKay, as well as her sister Doreen McKay.

Throughout her life, Deborah was known for her giving heart and unwavering desire to uplift others. Whether offering a kind word to a stranger or lending support to someone in need, she found joy in bringing smiles to those around her. Her compassion extended beyond family and friends—she had an innate ability to make anyone feel seen and valued.

Deborah’s love for crafting reflected both her creativity and her thoughtfulness. She poured care into every handmade item, often creating gifts that became cherished keepsakes. Her home was filled with the warmth of family gatherings and the laughter of children and grandchildren—moments she treasured deeply. Her beloved dog was also a constant companion who brought her comfort and joy.

A woman of deep faith, Deborah held a strong belief in God that guided her actions and gave strength through life’s challenges. Her spiritual devotion was evident in the way she lived—with kindness, humility, and grace.

Deborah’s legacy lives on through the lives she touched with her selflessness and love. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire acts of kindness in the world around us.
