Evelyn Batema

Evelyn L. Batema, age 95 of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Roy Batema and her daughter Ellen Rae Batema.

Evelyn is survived by her children Carolyn Batema, Donna (Bill) Engel, and James (Cathy) Batema. She will be deeply missed by her seven grandchildren, Gabrielle, Tommy, Laurel, Katie, Sara, Jamie and Alan, along with fourteen great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Alyce Gray and brother-in-law James P. (Kay) Batema, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Evelyn’s legacy of love and cherished memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Evelyn was the heart and soul of her family. Her boundless love, warmth, and unwavering support were constants in the lives of her family. She delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved nothing more than opening their worlds through the arts, music, and culture. 

Roy and Evelyn were avid travelers, they found joy in exploring new places and collecting memories across the country and abroad. Whether it was a road trip to another state, a cruise through the Caribbean, or an adventure across the globe, she was happiest when sharing new experiences with her family.

The Batema family would like to extend a special thank you to Edison Christian for the care and compassion over the past year and a half. 

In honoring Evelyn’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time.
