Frederick Merrill Shoup Sr., 86, of Sturgis, MI, passed away on January 6, 2021.

Fred is survived by his children, Patricia (Mark) Borgert of Sturgis, Mary (Craig) Strong of Sturgis, Debra (Tom) Stauffer of Three Rivers, Frederick (Kimberly) Shoup of Sturgis; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his brother, Donald Shoup of Dalton; his sister Rosemary (Jack) Niceswander of Kalamazoo; and his dear friend Marianna Fawn Tanney and children of Kalamazoo. He is predeceased by his former wife, Dorothy Higgins; his parents, Percy and Maude Shoup; his brother, Art Shoup; and his grandson, Freddie Shoup.

Fred was born in Kalamazoo on September 21, 1934 to Percy and Maude Shoup. Fred was in the grocery business for many years, starting his career at Harding’s, managing Village Market, and owning his own businesses. After retiring Fred enjoyed garage sales and spending time with his family.

A memorial service will be held on a later date.
