GEORGE SIDNEY AMMON

(7/16/1927-6/14/2026)

Sid was born in Detroit on July 16, 1927 to Perry and Jessie (Wilson) Ammon. Sid was the eldest of their three children. In 1938 the family moved to Grand Rapids, where he graduated from Ottawa Hills High School, class of 1945. He is a World War II Navy veteran.

Sid earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1950 and got a job with Goodyear as a Sales Engineer. But he wanted his own business, so in 1959 he and Jack DeVos formed Mechanical Rubber & Transmission, Inc. Forty years later, he turned it over to his associates; it is doing well today. 

His hobbies were sailing, riding horses, building dollhouses, and MR&T.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rita; his parents; his sister, Connie Lindquist; and his

brother, Jack Ammon. He is survived by his son Jeffrey (Tammy) Ammon; his daughter Christine Ammon; grandchildren Scott Ammon, Kate (Matt) Bloom and Susan (Kevin) Honaker; and five great-grandchildren. He is also remembered by Rita's children; Dan, Roger, and Ralph Faulkner; Theresa Phelps; Janet Taylor; and 15 grandchildren. 

Sid has been cremated per his wishes.
