Gerald Martin Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” Emery Martin, born October 16, 1938, in Keewatin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on May 19, 2025, at the age of 86 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Throughout his life, Jerry was a man of many talents and pursuits, serving proudly in the United Air Force and embracing a variety of professions, including electrical and carpet installation. He was a man who met every challenge with honesty and integrity, never shying away from new opportunities.

 Jerry was known for his gruff exterior, but those who knew him best were well aware of his big heart beneath. He was a dedicated and hardworking individual who consistently put the needs of others before his own. His life was a testament to the values of dedication, service, and kindness.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diane, his sons Donnie (Jan), Terry (Nancy), and Dennis (Rebecca), and daughter, Lori (Scott Brown).He is also survived by his brothers John (Nancy) and Robert (Janice), and his sisters Delores (Chuck Fiedler), Shirley Garrels, Pat Starnes, and Barb Bricker, in-laws Linda Blumenthal, John Jonatzke, Mary Jonatzke, Jim and Margaret Jonatzke, Dan O’Connell, and Kathleen and Scott Smart, numerous grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jerry is preceded by his parents Glenn and Velma Martin and his sister Mary Dishong.

In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held. Jerry’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the cherished memories of those who knew him and loved him.
