Gerrit A. Peddemors ended his journey on Earth Sunday, November, 24, 2019 at the age of 87.
He was born May 30, 1932 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Gerrit H. (Hank) and Dena (Lankamp) Peddemors. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, Donna Tietema and Nancy Poeder, his son, Thomas Peddemors and his grandson, Adam Hyde. Surviving Gerrit are his loving wife of 60 years, Janet A. (Bertek) Peddemors, his daughters, Kimberly (Bhopal) Singh and Karen (William) Hyde. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Ranvijay Singh, Kirsi Singh, Briana Hyde and David Hyde.
After high school Gerrit graduated from Valparaiso Technical Institute in Valparaiso, Indiana, then worked for GE in Syracuse and Utica, New York. He then served two years in the US Army after which he worked for ITT/Farnsworth in Fort Wayne, Indiana before returning to Grand Rapids. Gerrit spent the next 35 years working for Lear Siegler/Smiths Industries initially in manufacturing engineering, manufacturing department manager and finally in Human Resources. Gerrit volunteered his time on the Kent County ARC Board and helped establish the first Group Home in Grand Rapids. After retirement, he volunteered as a driver for the Red Cross.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially traveling and camping together. After retirement he and Janet joined an RV club called the Avion Travelcade Club and did a lot of traveling to almost every state as well as Canada and Mexico and met many new friends.
