Helen K. (Hansen) Cameron

Helen Katherine Cameron, 96, fell into the arms of the Lord on the 27th day of May 2025 after a short illness.  Helen was born in Laona, Wisconsin on December 19, 1928 to the late Peter and Jenny Hansen.  Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Donald A. Cameron, Jr., sisters Edna Filo, Marie Rugg, brother Edward Hansen and nieces Gayle Filo and Mary Jo Filo.  Surviving Helen are her sons Donald (Sandra) Cameron and Douglas (Nancy) Cameron, grandchildren Julia Young, Matthew Cameron and Nathan Cameron, nine great grandchildren and nieces Kathy Lewis and Gina Nelson.

Helen worked for 27 years in the GRPS and GRCC school systems until her retirement in 1993, as Administrative Executive Secretary for GRCC.  In her retirement Helen loved to read a lot of great books, crochet, bowl, golf and travel.  Helen traveled extensively though out the US, Canada, Hawaii, New Zealand and Denmark.  She also had a great love for God, family and friends.  Her family was one of the original parish families that joined St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in the 1950's.  Helen served on the alter guild, sang in the choir and served in many church functions in her 65 plus years as a member of the parish family.  So now Helen is on her everlasting journey, with a smile on her face, a great book in one hand, crochet hook in her other hand, her golf bag on her shoulder and the joy of God in her heart.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Beacon Hills and Cortland Northview for the loving care they gave Helen over the past 3 years.  A special thanks to Emmanuel Hospice for loving our mother over her final days, you were amazing.

By Helen's request cremation has taken place.  A memorial service for Helen will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1025 Three Mile Road, NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 1:00 pm with family meeting with friends an hour before service.
