Helen Keppler Obituary

Helen Ann Schultz Keppler, age 93, of Holland, Michigan and former longtime resident of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, died April 1, 2023. She was born May 29, 1929 at Blackwell, Wisconsin, the youngest daughter of Joseph and Emily Rogers Schultz.

Helen graduated from Santa Monica High School, June 1947. She earned her B.S. in Educational Psychology at Milwaukee State Teachers College and her M.S. from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

On November 24, 1978 she was united in marriage to Arnold “Bud” Keppler of Sheboygan; they enjoyed 31 great years together which included traveling, dancing and golfing. Helen was a Sheboygan Area Schools District Kindergarten teacher and Guidance Counselor for 39 years. She was a member of SCARTA and life member of UW Teachers and NEA teacher associations.

Throughout her life Helen loved nature and outdoor activities; she and Bud enjoyed many happy times at their place up north in Wabeno. Helen was active with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, AAUW and their Book Club. Following her retirement she volunteered at Maywood Environmental Park and several Sheboygan Elementary schools, including Heritage School. She belonged to Red Hatters groups in Sheboygan and the Wabeno area.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Genevieve Walters of Manistee, Michigan and Ruth LaFond of Wisconsin, and her husband Bud as well as other family members. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children, along with dear friends.

She was a beloved aunt and friend. Helen had a kind and generous heart, fun spirit and ready smile. She loved people of all ages and always had a special fondness for dogs. Helen will be deeply missed—the world was a better place with Helen in it.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon, Saturday, May 20, at Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church with Father Paul Fliss officiating. A time of visitation will take place prior to the Mass, beginning at 11:00 at the church. Entombment will take place in a private ceremony at Gardens of Peace Mausoleum at a later date.
