Iris Jean Hiler, (aka: Pat Hiler), 90 years of age, passed on Monday, August 1, 2023 at Trinity Hospital, Muskegon, Michigan. Pat was born August 29, 1932 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to the late Lt. Cols. John and Iona Kelly. She was the youngest of three children, two preceded her in death.
Pat was educated in several cities as her parents who were officers in the Salvation Army moved on several occasions. She graduated from Central High School, Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1952.
Pat married Don Hiler in 1966 and he adopted her four children from a previous marriage.
She loved working for the church; she worked as an Administrative Assistant of First United Methodist Church, downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan and retired after 36 years of service. She also served as a district delegate and on several committees of the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church. She always enjoying helping others. Pat loved to read, and watch sci-fi movies, and spend time with family, traveling to see them in different parts of the country; and always wearing a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, and friend, and always tried to put others first. “To know her was to love her.”
Pat is preceded in her death by 3 of her children; Lynda, David, and Karen, a grandson Jon, and a daughter-in-law Rayna. She is survived by her husband Don and son Steve; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, downtown Grand Rapids, on Saturday, August 26th at 11:00 am with visitation proceeding at 10:00 am at the church. Your presence is your gift to us.
