Jeffery Mahaney Obituary

It is with deep sadness, we announce the death of Jeffery Neal Mahaney, September 24, 2024. Jeff was

born in Detroit, on June 18, 1954. His mom always told him it was a beautiful sunny day. Though the

family eventually made Grand Rapids home, some of his favorite things were born in the D – Tigers

baseball, Lions football, Better Made potato chips and Motown. Not far away was another of his

favorites, the University of Michigan, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1981.

Jeff is survived by his wife and best friend of nearly 40 years, Catherine (Prindle) Mahaney. Left to miss his

dry wit, his intelligence and loving counsel, are his twin daughters. Daughter, Allison Savage, husband

Marcus, and children, Savannah and Sonny. Daughter, Elizabeth, husband Justin, and daughters, Ada

Grace and Anna Joy. Also missing his love is his mother, Peggy Gaeler Mahaney. His sister, Mimi

Mahaney-Stalzer, husband Pete, and daughter Alexandria, and his sister Jill Mahaney. He is survived by

his cousins, Pam O’Neal of Grand Haven, and Terence O’Neal of Grand Rapids, as well as many in-laws,

cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Jeff was predeceased by his father, Richard Earl Mahaney, brother,

Richard Roy Mahaney, his grandparents, best friends Doug and Gail Wicks, as well as his father and

mother in-law, John and Joan Prindle.

Jeff leaves all who knew him with his love of books, learning, love of family, and every dog he ever met.

His love and breadth of knowledge of music was amazing, and he would share it with anyone whether

they asked or not! He was especially proud of his wife, their girls, and grandchildren, his Irish heritage and his association with the U of M. Go blue.

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,

may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Jeff would ask of us only that we “Spread Joy.”

Donations in his memory may be offered to: Grand Rapids Home for Veterans (MVH)

Many thanks to the staff at Hospice of Michigan for their care.
