John Colvin passed away peacefully at his home with his wife Julie by his side on March 10, 2021.
As a youngster, John was a hard-working athlete who was All-State in both Football and Track & Field for East Grand Rapids, MI High School. He went on to play football at Michigan State University and later won a military championship while playing for his United States Army team. John was also a member of the East Grand Rapids HS Class of 1949 that was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
John and Julia E. Rasmussen were married for 63 years. They raised their family of three boys in both Illinois and Michigan. John was a business owner in the Grand Rapids, MI community for over 50 years, with his favorite being Alexander’s Military Antique shop, where his customers became his friends.
John, born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI, is survived by his wife Julie, three sons and seven grandchildren: Peter Colvin (Deb) and sons Chris and Cody of Grand Rapids; Jeff Colvin (Elaine) and children Noah, Sterling and Landon of San Diego, CA; and Todd (Jayne) and sons Zach and Dane of Chicago, IL.
John was preceded in death by his grandson Mackie Colvin, brother William Colvin, sister Patricia Colvin RN, mother Eva Colvin RN and father Walter Colvin MD.
John’s family was everything to him. He cherished spending time with his sons, daughters-in-law and grand kids. John mentored to his sons and their families by exemplifying honesty, integrity and enthusiasm in everything he did. He is looked upon with great admiration and love by his entire family.
