John Osmer

John David Osmer, age 96, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026. He will be missed every day by his daughters Julie Soentgen and Bonnie Czuhajewski and sons Daniel Osmer and Kurt (Kathryn) Osmer, his grandchildren Jesse (Nanna) Osmer, Christopher Osmer, Aprille (Jason) Holovich, Rick Soentgen, Noa (Gwen) Kim, Kendra (Erich) Wegner, Sarah Czuhajewski, Claire and Stephen Osmer and his great grandchildren Casper and Leo Osmer, Nevada, Colin and Brooklynn Holovich and Rhett Wegner, also his sister Mary (Marshall) Weber and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

John is preceded in death by his cherished wife Patricia and his son J.D. Osmer.

John was a master woodworker and remodeler. He was also an avid reader and loved fishing, golfing and spending time with his family. He and Patricia enjoyed camping trips to many parts of the country, especially Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. He will be remembered for his kindness, his willingness to help others, and the integrity and hard work that defined his life. John’s family wants to especially thank the day-to-day staff at The Oaks at Belmont who took such good care of John and put up with (and enjoyed) his many jokes and antics.

Honoring John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 1100 Lake Drive SE in Grand Rapids on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 6pm to 8pm and again on Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 1pm to 2pm, prior to the 2:00 service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name to Feeding America of West Michigan or Alzheimer’s Association.
