Jonette Jane (Reitman) Cavanaugh

Jonette Jane Cavanaugh “Joni” age 78 of Grand Rapids, Michigan went into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Blodgett hospital, surrounded by loved ones.

Joni was preceded in death by her father John Reitman and her mother Roberta Reitman, her two unborn children, and her great grandson Rian Napieralski. Joni is survived by her daughters Kelly (Jim) Austin and Shannon (Bill) Parsons, her brother Robert (Linda) Reitman, her twelve grandchildren, Chad (Danielle) Parsons, Christopher Parsons, Allison (Patrick) Roche, Erica Parsons, Abigail (David) Walters, Elliet Parsons, Madalyn Austin, Emmaleigh Taylor, Nancy Parsons, Olivia Parsons, Josie Parsons, and Mya Parsons, as well as nine great grandchildren, and two nephews, Troy (Jen) Reitman and Travis (Rebecca) Reitman.

Joni graduated from Union High School in 1960. Joni left behind a legacy of love, she was a wonderful mother, and a loving grandmother. Joni spent the last five years of her life residing at Edison Christian Health Center, where she was President of the Resident’s Council, her grandchildren teasingly referred to her as “Madame President”. She was lovingly cared for by their wonderful staff. She enjoyed visits with her daughter, grandchildren, other family members, and elders from Cascade Christian Church. She spent her days coloring treasured pictures for her family. She also spent many hours bird watching, her favorite birds to watch were hummingbirds, but she loved them all.

A visitation will be held in the sanctuary at Cascade Christian Church on Friday, May 7 at 1:00, followed by a celebration of life led by Pastor Jill Forton at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Family Camp Scholarship Fund. Joni’s favorite place on Earth was Family Camp, and she received scholarships through this fund in order to have the opportunity to go there.
