June R. Payne

June Rose Payne, of Grand Rapids MI, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at the age of 81.  She was born September 3, 1944 the daughter of Robert and Ruth Breen.

June is survived by her twin sister Joan Muschner and younger sister Deb (Jerry) Hoye. She is preceded in death by her son Jimmy, her parents, two sisters and one brother. 

June loved all her children, Jimmy, Sherry Petersen (Jim), Dawn Brower (Dave) and Shawn Guffey, sisters, brother and many nieces and nephews. She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was comforted to learn of a new arrival that is due near her birthday this year.  She held a special place in her heart for her roommate and best friend of 20 years, Walt, along with her protector Chewy. We are all missing her daily.

June loved to play games. She especially loved her Yahtzee parties. June will be missed at the Yahtzee table, where her absence will be felt and winning streak not forgotten. She’d have her cigarette, a cup of coffee or beer, depending on the day, maybe listening to a little George Jones and just having a great time playing and hanging out with family and friends. I know a lot of people will miss those nights.

I will miss all the times I called and asked what she was doing. She would respond with “getting fat and sassy.” We all believed the sassy part and we will always miss that part of her. We take comfort in knowing you are reunited with Jimmy and the rest of your family and friends, causing trouble and enjoying every minute of it.

This hit me hard when I went back to work and was leaving for the day, I started driving to your house instead of going home. That was a tough drive.  It still feels unreal not hearing or seeing you daily.

It’s really hard to sum up someone’s life in a few paragraphs, especially when you lived such a full life. We are going to hold a Celebration of Life in the spring and share more memories and stories. We all love you and miss you every day, you will not be forgotten mom.
