Karen Hawthorne Obituary

Karen Marie Hawthorne left this earthly world to be with her heavenly father on April 19, 2022. Karen was preceded in death by her parents - Alfred and Marie Day and her husband - Roger Hawthorne. Karen was survived by her brother - Rol (Shawnta) Day, her children - Sherri (Wayne) Lawrence, Michelle Hawthorne, and Vicki (John) Berles, her niece - Katie Day, her nephew - Jackson Day, her grandchildren - Zachary Dykema, Stephanie (Ethan) Cannon, Seaira Mikaya, and Mark Mikaya, and her great-grandchildren - Peyton Cannon and Lucas Cannon.

Karen was born on August 7, 1951 to her parents, Alfred and Marie Day of Fairgrove, MI. Growing up, Karen had many friends; however, Carole Lanfear was her best friend for her entire life. Karen went to school at Adelphian Academy in Holly MI. She graduated from the college prep/boarding school in 1969. Following that, she went to nursing school at Fletcher first. She graduated from Hinsdale School of Nursing in Illinois with her LPN in 1971. Following school, Karen worked as a nurse in Illinois and Michigan. She also worked as a dispatcher for the Medical Personnel Pool and as a medical coder.

Karen married Roger Hawthorne on May 13, 1979 in Vassar, MI. She remained married until becoming a widow when Roger passed away on September 24, 2008. Karen and Roger spent the majority of their life with one another in the Grand Rapids area. They were proud members of the Wyoming Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Throughout her life, Karen faced many challenges with her physical health. She had breast cancer and bone cancer. Facing these difficult challenges with her health inspired a more positive attitude, a better outlook on life, and a significantly stronger faith in the Lord. Karen loved animals throughout her entire life. She raised raccoons and they have always been her favorite animals. Karen was an excellent cook and baker. She poured an immense amount of love into everything that she made for others.

Karen will be greatly missed. A memorial Service will be held at the Wyoming Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 2580 44th St SW, Wyoming, MI 49519 on May 15, 2022 at 3 PM. A time of fellowship will follow.
