Katie Bigelow

Katie Rachel Bigelow, age 41 of Reed City, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2023 at Spectrum Health Butterworth hospital due to injuries sustained from a car accident.

Katie was born on November 16, 1981 in Grand Rapids, MI to Tam (McGee) and Don Bigelow. Katie graduated from Pine River Area High School in 2000. Inspired by her mother’s love, compassion, and ability to care for others Katie earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ferris State University in 2007, and later, her Masters in Nurse Practitioner from Purdue Global University in 2022.

Katie's smile and contagious energy for life touched everyone she encountered. Her vivacious and authentic personality will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A woman of many talents and interests, Katie enjoyed studying psychology, listening to audiobooks, podcasts, working out, and spending time outdoors. Downhill skiing with her daughters, hiking, and running with her German shepard, Daisy, were her favorite ways to stay active. Katie was a phenomenal cook and enjoyed watching her daughters play many sports.

Katie's life was defined by her capacity to love and her emotional intelligence. She believed that love is always the answer and she strived to live by this principle. Some of her greatest accomplishments included raising her daughters and continually striving for personal growth and self-discovery. Her legacy is a reminder for all to be kind, speak up, listen more, never stop learning, live fully, and love deeply.

Katie is survived by her daughters, Lillian and Lauren Pylman; her parents Don and Tam Bigelow; her sisters, Sarah (Brian) Dvoracek, Abby (Steven) Sadler, and Betsy Bigelow; and her nieces Bianca, Anna, Gwen, Nora, and nephew Isaac. She was a loving and devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose memory will live on in the hearts of those she left behind. In the words of Ayn Rand, from The Fountainhead, one of Katie’s favorite books, "You have been the one encounter in my life that can never be repeated."

Visitation with family and friends will be held on May 24, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Edgetts Wesleyan Church. A celebration of Katie's life will take place on May 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Edgetts Wesleyan Church.
