Keith Allen Tyler I, age 74 of Sand Lake, Michigan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021. He was born on April 21, 1947 to Merton Tyler and Alida (Van)(Elliott) Tyler.
Keith was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy. He also served his country in his later years in the American Legion, Sons of American Legion and volunteered at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans - serving as an advocate for retired service members. His accomplishments include: American Legion Post Commander for Post 154 and Post 459; Commander of the 5th District for Sons of American Legion and also as Squadron Commander of Post 287; and a member of the Kent County Honor Guard. Keith was also a volunteer with the Kent County Sheriff Department Reserves and drove commercial trucks for several years.
In his life, he was a diligent husband, father, grand-father, and great-grand-father.
Keith is survived by his wife, Mary Tyler; his brother, Steve Tyler; and his daughters: Michelle Allen, April Taylor and Melissa Dennis. Honorary children Amanda and TJ Ludwick, and Jerry II and Callie Dennis, also his daughter-in-law, Ronda Tyler; and his sons-in-laws: Troy Allen and Roger Taylor Keith’s grand-children include: Tara Tyler, Kami Shepard, Nick Tyler, Cassi Tyler, Kendrick Figures, Mikayla Figures, Trinity Allen, Jacob Allen, Nevaeh Berry, Corey Tyler, Roger Taylor Jr, Jake Taylor, Jacob Vander Schuur, Caleb Ludwick, Abby Ludwick, Matthew Ludwick, Kyle Pranger, Cayden Pranger, Bobbi Ludwick, Carrie Ludwick, Naomi Dennis, Conner Dennis, as well as 8 great-grand-children. Many nieces and nephews.
Keith’s family would also like to give very special thank you to Keith’s ‘adopted brother’ Dominic Merlington, along his wife Christine and children Robert Burmeister and Rebekah Merlington for all the love and support they gave to Keith and Mary for several of his final years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Keith Tyler II; and brothers: Basil Elliott, Clark Elliott, Joe Elliott, and George Elliott.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Heartland Hospice or the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Please include in notations: “In loving memory of Keith Allen Tyler I”.
Burial services for Keith will be at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan on Tuesday, June 22nd promptly at 12:30pm. Information will be available soon for a Celebration of Life service for Keith.
