Kristine Kay (Gmazel) Krampe

Kristine Krampe of Grand Rapids, Mich., passed away on December 29, 2019 at the age of 67 after a six-month struggle with pancreatic cancer.

She is survived by her two children and their spouses [Michael Krampe (Christine) and Jessica Salik (Michael) and four grandchildren (Karsten and Phoebe Krampe; Evan and Lydia Salik)]. Additionally, she’s survived by 5 siblings [LeRoy Gmazel (Sharon); Donald Gmazel (Virginia); Stephen Gmazel; Marlene Carey; and John Gmazel (Dana)]. Kristine was preceded in death by her father and mother, Stephen and Mabel Gmazel; her sister-in-law, Sandra Gmazel; and her niece, Denise Gmazel-Horsley. 

Kristine was born May 25, 1952 in Lansing, Mich., where she graduated from Waverly High School in 1970. She earned a diploma in Nursing at Mercy Central School of Nursing (1984) and received the Catherine McAuley Award for supporting the whole patient - mind, body and spirit. She continued her courses at Grand Valley State University to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She recently retired from St. Mary’s / Mercy Health after a distinguished career in patient care, unit management, and quality management. 

Kristine was a loving mother, grandmother, sibling and friend, who enjoyed reading, the arts, yoga, nature, travel, and being socially and civically active in her community. Her kind, caring, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed. 

A memorial service will be held January 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Watermark Country Club, 5500 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.  The family will host a luncheon immediately following the service.
