Obituary

Leilah Mae Madden went to her Heavenly Father on March 14, 2023 after her earthly journey of 102 1/2 years during which she spread joy and optimism to everyone who knew her.  Born on July 18th, 1920 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to John and Glenna Ferguson, into a family with 7 siblings, all which preceded her in death. She was married to Joe (Joseph Anthony) Madden for 58 happy years until his passing on May 19, 1997.  Joe and Leilah (aka Dolly) had 6 children: Judith Ann Bartson (husband Don deceased) of Fremont Ohio, Carol Jean Eaves of Wyoming Michigan, (now deceased), Joseph Donald Madden of Kentwood Michigan, John Edward Madden of Fremont Ohio (now deceased), Thomas Eugene Madden & wife Grace of Caledonia Michigan, and Steven Craig Madden of Newago Michigan.

Leilah had nine grandchildren, Brent, Troy, Rachael, Bill, Cara, Stephanie, Mike, Ashley, Joel, and 19 great grandchildren all of who marveled at her cheery disposition and how she had kind words for everyone she met.  Despite the challenges and loss in her long life which were many, Leilah brought sunshine to everyone she met and made their lives a little brighter.  Though the family is saddened by her passing, we all know she is with her Heavenly Father along with her beloved husband and children, Carol and John, who passed before her.

There will be a private family memorial at Leilah’s graveside at Georgetown Township Cemetery and in the Springtime, the family will gather together for a celebration of Leilah’s life.  In lieu of flowers, Leilah would have wished for donations in her name to Gary Byker Memorial Library or Love Inc. of Hudsonville, Michigan.
