On October 1, 2025, Leon J. Visser of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully at the age of 72. We will miss him deeply, but we take comfort in knowing that he is with the Lord. Though he is no longer with us on Earth, we look forward to the day we will be reunited with him in heaven.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gertrude Visser, and his nephew, Erik Visser.
He is survived by his children: Jennifer (Jeff) Mitchell of Ada, Lisa (Sam) Karsten of Middleville, and Dr. Lance (Blair) Visser of Ft. Collins, CO; grandchildren: Hayden, Jacob, Claire, Quinn, Dylan, Alex, Colson, Ethan, McKinsley, Jaxston, Owen, and Joseph; as well as former wife and friend, Sharlene Visser-Burd. Also surviving are his siblings: Linda (Larry) Andrews of Flint, Larry (Kay) Visser of Sebring, FL, Leslie Visser of Flint, Lyle (Bonnie) Visser of Lakeview, and Leonard (Amy) Visser of Gun Lake; along with many nieces and nephews.
Leon attended Flint Christian Schools and Hamady High School in Flint, MI, and later studied Business Accounting at Calvin (College) University.
Leon loved all sports. He especially loved watching the Tigers and football. His greatest joys were moments watching his children and grandchildren play sports—whether it was soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, or softball—or attending music concerts and drama performances. He was a protector, a loving father and grandfather, and had a hardy laugh that everyone who knew him remembers.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Friday October 10, 2025 at Raybrook Holland Home located at 2121 Raybrook St Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546. Visitation will be held hour hour prior to service.
