Leona Young, of Grandville, passed away May 23rd at the age of 95. Born in Hartford, CT to parents, Frank and Wilma (Gerich) Kristoff, she is reunited with beloved husband, Leonard; they were married for 68 years. She was preceded in death by cherished daughter-in-law Carmen; brothers, James, Robert, Ronald, Arthur, Bernard, and sister Marie.
She is survived by sons, James and Jeffrey; grandsons, James and Abby Young (Maggie), Jason and Amanda Young (Mercedes, Mattias, and Silas), Felix and Lanae Monera (Connor, Chase, and Addison); granddaughter, Julinda Monera and Jason Semanek; brothers, Frank Jr., Richard, and Lawrence; Shirlee Cheers and family; her many nieces and nephews, as well as, extended family and dear friends.
In her hometown of Manchester CT she met her husband; Leonard was in the U.S. Army Air Forces. They were married in 1942 and subsequently lived near numerous military posts around the country. After Leonard returned from serving in Italy they moved to Michigan and eventually settled in Grandville.
Following retirement, Leona and Leonard enjoyed traveling across America. Over the next 25 years, they wandered highways and byways exploring the U.S. and Canada. But she was always happy returning home to be with family and friends. Leona lived the past 63 years in her Grandville home. She always said how fortunate she was that her grandchildren lived only four blocks away.
In her final few years, she endured numerous health setbacks but always bounced back and maintained her vigor for life. All who knew her were amazed by her mental acuity and she maintained her vibrant spirit until her passing.
A private family service is planned. Memorial contributions can be directed toward local Hospices or Veterans organizations.
