Lorraine was the beloved wife of Alan Demorest (deceased) and Robert Wood (deceased), mother to Sarah (Demorest) Glover (deceased), Nancy (Demorest) Smith, and David Demorest and grandmother to Starla Glover, Erin Glover and Sam Demorest. She was predeceased by her only sibling, Arloa VerBerkmoes. Lorraine was the Matriarch and last surviving member of her generation on both sides of her family, having out-lived her sister, two husbands and all six of her in-laws. It was her fervent hope that she would live to see her 100th birthday.
Lorraine enjoyed a long career of teaching at Sigsbee and Coit Elementary Schools in Grand Rapids and was an enthusiastic world traveler, having visited a long list of far-flung destinations throughout her lifetime. In her spare time she loved to read and was also a talented seamstress. Classical music and public radio were an important part of her life. Lorraine was a member of Fountain Street Church for 70 years, and enjoyed many close friendships forged through her association with the church. After retirement she became a snowbird, wintering in Florida and summering in Michigan for many years, but settled permanently in Grand Rapids in recent years.
