Maria Choroszucha Obituary

Maria (Kosiorek-Czarnecki) Choroszucha passed into her eternal rest on July 15, 2021. Born August 5, 1942 in Lomza, Poland. Maria started her journey to the United States in the late-1950s.  As the conditions in Poland deteriorated her situation caught the attention of then-Congressman Gerald R. Ford.  In early 1959 Congressman Ford penned a bill in her name, and with Ford’s assistance, Maria and her sisters, Bonnie and Elzbieta (Betty) were able to start their new lives in America.

As she assimilated into life in the United States, Maria married the love of her life, Ryszard Choroszucha, and together they raised two children; Thomas (Jan) Choroszucha and Barbara (Mark) Prus. As the family grew, she became Babcia to five grandchildren; Richard (Amber), Alycia and Daniel Choroszucha, Jessica Wilkinson and Matthew Prus along with four great-grandchildren; Jerica and Jasper Wilkinson, Lilith and Mara Choroszucha.

After Ryszard's passing in 1981, Maria was blessed to find love with Bogdan Choroszucha until his passing in 1996. Together they shared a “third” child; Misiu, their faithful and loyal Samoyed. They spent their days on Big Pine Island Lake, either on their pontoon, or cleaning the ice so their grandkids could skate.

Maria was blessed with many close friends, including her in-laws Zofia and Zbigniew Choroszucha, Walerian and Alicja Szleser, and her sisters Betty Richko and Bonnie Hoekstra.

Maria’s superpower was her legendary Polish cooking, combined with her love for a house full of family. Some of the greatest memories are from family dinners at the cottage, over her Kielbasa and cucumber salad. She had the loudest laugh in the room and was never one to turn down dessert.  It wouldn’t be Maria’s story if we didn’t mention her love for wrestling and card games. The mischievous sparkle in her eye will be part of her lasting legacy, and she will be missed dearly.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents; Franciszek Kosiorek and Wladyslawa Zalewska Kosiorek, husbands Ryszard Choroszucha and Bogdan Choroszucha, brother Janusz Kosiorek and many close relatives and friends.

A private family service will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please hug or call your family often to remind them they are loved.
