Marjorie (Marj) Neubig, 93, died peacefully at her home in Grand Rapids, MI on April 25, 2019. She was born in Jackson, Ohio to Hermann and Ernestine (Hunter) Miller on May 17th 1925. She was a graduate of Ohio State University where she obtained Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Economics. While at OSU she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and President of the Women’s Self Government Association. She was a life member of the Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO).
Marj married Robert D. Neubig in Columbus, Ohio on June 3, 1950. They spent their first years of marriage in Caracas, Venezuela. They lived in Columbus and Athens, Ohio and Kalamazoo, Michigan. They greatly enjoyed traveling together and with family and friends. They visited all 50 states and 6 of the 7 continents. They also shared joys in skiing, golf, bridge, and genealogy. Marj was a friend to all she met and stayed active to the end with bridge, Scrabble, Quirkle and Buckeye football. She was a member of the Mayflower Congregational Church.
Marj is survived by two sons, Richard R (Laura Liebler) Neubig, East Lansing, MI, Thomas S (Jane) Neubig, Annandale, VA, and daughter Elizabeth (Chris VandenBerg) Neubig, East Grand Rapids. Also, her Grandchildren Graham and Maia Neubig; Emily, Alicia Dominguez, and Stephen Neubig; and Jon, Monica, Erica and Robert Oliver VandenBerg and three Great-grandchildren (Enna, Peyton, and Nico). She was pre-deceased by her husband Bob and her sister Marilyn Miller Menaul. She is also survived by her nieces Marjorie Menaul, Columbus, OH and Nancy (Tony) Schultz of Portage, MI, nephews, Robert and James Menaul, Columbus OH, and great nieces Marilyn and Diana Schultz. She reveled in the adventures of her extended family and kept them all in touch by sharing “Mimi’s Monthly Musings”.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 8th, at 11am at Cook Valley Estates, 1049 E. Paris Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, Marj would cherish donations to Eversight Vision in Ann Arbor, the Marjorie M. Neubig Fund for Science Inspiration at East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation, Blandford Nature Center, Hermann C. Miller Scholarship at Ohio State University or Robert D. Neubig Scholarship Fund at Western Michigan University.
