Mary Buchanan

Buchanan, Mary 1/14/1946 - 11/22/2021 Grand Rapids Mary Ann (Motyka) Buchanan passed away peacefully at home in Grand Rapids, MI on Monday, November 22, 2021 at the age of 75 with her family at her bedside. Mary was born on January 14, 1946, in Ludington, Michigan. She was an avid golfer, poker player, gardener, housekeeper and was passionate about mowing her lawn. As a couple, Mary and Tom, her husband of 34 years, split their time between their homes in Michigan and Florida. After retiring from Rogers Department Store, where she was a bookkeeper for more than 25 years, Mary gave back to the community by working with Meals on Wheels in the Grand Rapids area. Mary loved watching her husband play softball and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She looked forward to family gatherings and each 4th of July, you could find Mary with a seat in front of the Ludington Court House enjoying the city parade, never missing the Scottville Clown Band. She is survived by her husband Thomas Buchanan, sons Dennis and Randy Bennett, Robert Buchanan, daughter Kelly Grenell, sisters Carol Landman and Jacalyn Sroka. Her extended family includes daughters by marriage, nieces, nephews as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren who love her very much. She was preceded in death by her sisters Norita Sue Roberts, Stephanie Neil and daughter-in-law Julie Evans Buchanan. Per Mary's wishes, a private family service will be held on December 4, 2021 in Grand Rapids at First Evangelical Covenant Church, 1933 Tremont Blvd NW, Grand Rapids, Michigan at 11:30 am-12:00 pm. A family luncheon will be held in the Fellowship Hall from 12:00-2:00 pm and an open house with refreshments for friends and family from 2:00-4:00 pm. Mary lived her life as a light in a sometimes-dark world. Her deep love of family and dedication to friends continues to serve as an example to all who knew and will forever love her.
