Mary Crowgey Obituary

Mary Jean (Lee) Crowgey, 68, of Northport, passed away peacefully and was called to heaven, surrounded by family on April 13, 2023.

Mary was born on August 14, 1954, to Lars Robert Lee and Wilda May (Ranger) Lee at the Northport Emergency Hospital. Known as ‘Mary Jean’ as a child, she grew up on her multi-generational family farm with her 7 brothers and sisters and could often be found riding her horse, Lady, picking cherries, driving tractors, riding pigs and playing with her siblings.  Family meant everything to her.

Mary graduated from Northport Public School in the class of 1972 and went on to pursue her dreams at Northern Michigan University where she met her soulmate Bill Crowgey, over their shared love of music. They married on June 15, 1974, and moved back to the Northport area to build their home on part of the 150-year-old family farm.  They started their family a few years later, welcoming their daughter, Holly and their son, Nathan just 18 months later.  Mary’s love for family and children led them to provide foster care for children in need and in 1994 they adopted their daughter, Mariah.

Mary enjoyed numerous jobs throughout her working years, but her favorite position was at the Leelanau Township Library, working with all her little Wigglers.  She put off her retirement until 2021 because she couldn’t imagine being without all her tiny library visitors.

Mary was involved in several community activities and events.  She could always be found practicing piano for the Northport Covenant Church and clarinet for the Northport Community Band.  She loved working with the children at Sunday School and Vacation Bible school through her church, but her absolute greatest joy was her grandchildren.  Mary spent as much time as she could visiting and playing with her grandchildren and could not have been more proud of them all.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Lars and Wilda (Ranger) Lee, and brother, Richard Lee.

She is survived by the love of her life, Bill Crowgey, Son: Nathan (Amy) Crowgey, Daughters: Holly (Bron) Tamulion, and Mariah (Jason) Holland, Grandchildren: Hunter, Holden, Hudson and Josslyn Tamulion, Nolan and Isla Crowgey, Ava, Scarlett and Liam Holland, siblings: Gerald Lee, (Debra) Lee, Maddie Lee, Kathy (Ron) Brakel, Karen (Keith) Steele, David (Mary-Claire) Lee, Douglas (Jennifer) Lee and many other family members and loved ones.

A Memorial service will be held at Northport Covenant Church located at 409 S Shabwasung St, Northport, Michigan 49670 on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to service.  Donations may be made in Mary’s name to the Northport Covenant Church.
