Mary Yost

Mary L. Yost, age 94 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 5, 2023 with her four children at her side. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, William G. Yost, Jr., and son-in-law, Larry Livengood. She is survived and will be missed by her children: Karl (Karen) Yost, Kurt (Sally) Yost, Susan Livengood, and Laura (Wayne) Manthey; grandchildren: Adam (Dara), Elizabeth (Nick), Emily (Dave), Aaron James, Kyle (Olivia), Amanda (David), Rebecca, Margaret (Ben), and Oliver; eleven great grandchildren; and many cherished extended family members and dear friends.  Mary was the only child of Malcolm B. and Ruth Esther Weaver. She was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and spent the summers of her youth with her family at their cabin they built on the northern shores of Lake Michigan. She graduated from Albion College where she met her husband. She taught Home Economics in Ionia, then in Chelsea and Ann Arbor while her husband attended medical school, and decades later, in Lowell. She was an active community volunteer and served on the Lowell Area Schools Board of Education and the boards of numerous community organizations. She was a long-time member of P.E.O. She especially enjoyed preparing special meals for family and friends, flower arranging, gardening, sewing, writing letters and notes to loved ones, golfing, biking, and spending time at her family cabin in northern Michigan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Meeting House of Porter Hills Village (3600 Fulton St. E, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546). Her family extends their warmest thanks and appreciation to her care givers at Porter Hills Village for their loving and compassionate care of their mother.
