Myron Wernette of Hudsonville, MI passed away in Grand Rapids, surrounded by his family, on December 21 at the age of 71. He was born in Edmore, MI to the late Victor and Pauline (Strong) Wernette.
Myron grew up on his family’s farm in Eaton Rapids, MI and graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1968 and from Central Michigan University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
In 2012, Myron retired from CSX Transportation with 30+ years of dedicated service. During his long railroad career, Myron enjoyed serving the rail transportation industry as a brakeman; locomotive engineer; instructor at the CSX Locomotive Engineer Training School in Cumberland, MD; trainmaster; and remote control operator & instructor.
Myron was an active member of Grand Rapids First United Methodist Church. His life-long passions included his family, faith, music, ham radio (W8RFK), model railroading & railroad history, restoring & showing his classic Oliver farm tractors, fishing, bicycling, and RV travel across the US & Canada with his wife.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 50 years Delores; adult children Valerie Wernette, Nathan (Maria) Wernette, and Sarah (David) Hilton; grandchildren Rosemary, Joseph, and Ethan; brothers Gail (Jan) Wernette and Alan (Julie) Wernette; sister Karen Wernette; sister-in-law Diane (David) Bateman; father- and mother-in-law David & Donna Klink; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The Wernette Family thanks the Ottawa County emergency responders and Myron’s ICU medical care team at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will take place in 2022. Details will be announced at a later date.
