Norma Jean Chubb, age 88, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 15, 2022 at The Oaks of Belmont. She was predeceased by a son Robert Chubb, daughter Diana Reits, grandson Bradley Walsh, and sister Brenda Guilfoyle. Norma is survived by a daughter, Karen Doyle Homan (Bob Homan) of Belmont, and sons Alan Chubb (Lureatha) of Northglenn, Colorado, Aron Chubb of Wyoming, Michigan, and Michael Chubb of Larned, Kansas, eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Norma was born in Kalamazoo and lived always in southwest Michigan. Norma became a single mom of six children at the young age of 33. While raising her children and working various jobs, she completed her high school education and then attended Davenport College where she earned a secretarial certificate. She worked full-time until her retirement in 1999. She was a good friend to many; once you became her friend you were her friend for life. She was frugal and enjoyed hunting for the perfect outfit at thrift stores. She would always be beautifully coordinated from her shoes to her earrings.
Norma was artistic, an avid crafter and painter. She taught her kids how to sew, knit and crochet. She loved flowers and had a special affinity for Morning Glories. She liked eating out, especially getting together with friends for a meal. If someone suggested “let’s play cards,” she was all in; whatever task she was working on could wait.
Norma was a devout Jehovah’s Witness and attended the Rockford Michigan Kingdom Hall. Her faith in Jehovah and her many friendships sustained her throughout the ups and downs of life, raising and supporting six children, the heartbreak of out-living two of her children and her grandson, and in her later years, battling both breast and uterine cancer. She was a strong woman who kept on keeping on.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral or memorial service. A private ceremony to scatter her ashes will occur at a later date.
Special thanks to the staffs at The Oaks of Belmont and Spectrum Hospice for the wonderful and kind care Norma received during her final months and days.
In lieu of flowers the family requests you consider a contribution in Norma’s memory to Senior Meals on Wheels, North Kent Connect, Spectrum Hospice, or to a charity of your choice.
