Pauline "Polly" Spence Obituary

Pauline “Polly” Spence, age 68, passed away peacefully September 16, 2021.

She was born April 22, 1953 in Lorain, Ohio to Earl Wayne and Harriet Elizabeth McClure.

Polly truly relished the time she spent with her family.  She would discuss and plan every detail of upcoming family events with her daughters, Carly and Jennifer.  Her excitement and the love she had for her family was contagious.  Polly always wanted to make sure everyone else was happy and having a good time.  Some of her favorite moments included family reunions in Kentucky and Thanksgiving holidays in Michigan.  She loved watching the Ohio State / Michigan game with family. She was a diehard Ohio State fan and was always the most vocal person in the room.

Polly can be described as a close friend by many people.  She was always there for her friends and family during good times and bad.  People were drawn to her warm personality because she always displayed her authentic self and always strived to make the people around her feel special and cared for.  Polly always made friends wherever she went.

Polly’s most treasured roles in life were “Mom” and “Nana”.  She protected and doted over her three children: Jen, Carly, and Al.  In the most difficult situations, she would do anything within her means to make her children feel content and happy and give them what they needed.  She would always try to make the best of things even when life was a struggle.  Once her children were grown, her role of mother turned to best friend.  She referred to Jen and Carly as “Sis” and the three talked on a daily basis.  She was a trusted confidant to both girls.  Her presence in their lives will be greatly missed.  She adored her role as Nana to her four beautiful grandchildren.  She was there for each of them from the time they were born.  Some of her favorite times were watching them perform in concerts or school sports, giving speeches, and baking the “endless cookie bowl” together.  She was their biggest fan.

Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Polly is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Ison (John); Carly DuVall (Patrick); grandchildren, Brennan Ison, Brody Ison, Jordan DuVall, and Brooke DuVall.  She is also survived by one brother, Thomas McClure (Clare) as well as many loving nieces & nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Alex Junior Spence, her son, Alex W. Spence, her parents Earl Wayne & Harriet McClure, and brother Theodore McClure (Bea).

A remembrance ceremony will take place at a later date when Polly will be interred with her husband and son in Boynton Beach, Fl.
