Philip Gerald Routzahn peacefully went to be with his Lord on September 26, 2024 after a long and courageous health battle over the past 2 years. He was born in Grand Rapids on October 24, 1954 to the late Gerald and Dorothy (Petersen) Routzahn. Phil was a loving husband, very proud father, and new grandfather who would instantly light up any room he entered. A graduate of Ottawa Hills High School Class of 1972, Michigan State University, and Aquinas College, Phil became a well-known face of the Employee Benefits Industry across West Michigan.
Phil's sense of humor and ability to spark a conversation with any stranger would instantly brighten anyone's day. His infectious wit and fighting spirit inspired everyone around him, especially over the past several years. He loved and dreamt to travel, and could never get enough of his favorite destination, Glen Lake.
He is survived by his dear wife of nearly 37 years Laura (Chulski); sons Charles and R.J. (Jenna); grandson Cooper, who was born just one week before Phil's passing; sister Diane Bolton; and his faithful dog Annie. He is also survived by in-law family members Tom and Jan Chulski, Rick and Bridget Chulski, and Paul and Jennifer Chulski, in addition to many nieces and nephews who are dearly beloved. His bright personality and ability to make anyone laugh will be greatly missed by his large and loyal group of friends and family that he loved so much. Phil was always the life of the party and would be sure to add in his favorite line "go big or go home."
A Catholic Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 10:30am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church (1449 Wilcox Park Dr., Grand Rapids) with Fr. James Chelich presiding. Luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Bissell Pet Foundation.
