Phyllis DeVoss Obituary

Phyllis Lou (Gordon) DeVoss age 92 of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, October 28, 2024 in her home, Villa Maria Retirement Community, Grand Rapids, MI.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents Everett and Lillian Gordon, brother Gene Gordon, sister Diane (Gordon) Davis, twin Daughters Mary and Debra DeVoss, daughter Robin

(DeVoss) VerDuin, nephew Kip Davis and step-grandson Jeremiah Vredeveld.

She is survived by her brother Gilbert Gordon, son Darby (Lisa) DeVoss, grandchildren Sam Fabiano, Ian VerDuin and Cheyenne DeVoss, great Granddaughters Lucia and Leslie, and

nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was born and raised in Coopersville MI.

She retired after 32 yrs of service from the State of MI, Protective Services division of Health and Human Services. Prior to she taught 4th and 5th grades and was Principal of Interlochen

Elementary.

She was a proud Alumni of Central Michigan University, Class of 1953. During her college years she had many interests including Song, Dance and appeared in many Plays with her

Drama Club. In 1952 she was Named Miss Grand Haven. During her time as Queen she entered pageants for Miss Michigan. After her retirement she was invited to ride a float as Miss

Grand Haven 1952 at the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival.

Phyllis had an adventurous spirit and was very active well into her 70's. She loved Grand Haven Beach, Sailing, downhill Skiing, Gardening, Reading, Works of Art, Travel and Rock and Roll

Music. She loved all animals especially her many pet Cats over the years. She will be lovingly remembered for her sense of humor and her strength to overcome many

obstacles in her long life. Her unwavering love and support to her Children and Grandchildren, and the vital role she played in raising her Granddaughter.

The Family would like to give special Thanks and appreciation to her longtime caregiver's and dear Friends from “Happier at Home”, Villa Maria and “Hospice Care Team” for their loving care

and friendship to our dear Mom. Her niece Diane “Dee Dee” Gill for her constant support and love for her aunt “Phyl”. Her Granddaughter Cheyenne for being there with love and support for

Grandma in her last days.

A Celebration to honor Phyllis will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make all donations to Hospice of Michigan.
