Robert Henning

Robert “Bob” Henning, 76, of Comstock Park, Michigan passed away peacefully in his bed on October 24, 2023 with his beloved wife of 57 years Marcia (VanderMoere) by his side. 

Born August 13, 1947 to Orrin and Mary Henning, Bob grew up in Grand Rapids with his 4 siblings and many aunts, uncles, and cousins nearby.  Bob and Marcia married in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1966, moving to their long-time home in Comstock Park in 1971 - it was there that they planted their roots and raised 3 children.  Bob worked for the City of Grand Rapids in various roles, ultimately working as a construction inspector for the engineering department until his retirement in 1997.

Bob had a love for life and will be forever remembered by his friends and family for his quick wit and big heart.  He did everything in his power to provide a wonderful life for his family and had the special ability to make friends with anybody he met – he will be missed dearly by all who had the fortune to know him.

Bob enjoyed spending his free time either outdoors or in the bowling alley.  He had a love for fishing, taking many trips to the east side of the state for annual Walleye trips on Lake Erie with friends and family.  He also enjoyed spending time on the golf course, playing a round with his friends at least once a week after retirement.  Bob was an avid bowler known around many of the local alleys and travelling the country for tournaments.  He considered Westgate Bowl a second home, where he finally posted his 2 elusive 300 games in January and March of 2006 after a lifetime of close games.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Don and sister Verna.  He is survived by his wife Marcia; brother John (Martha) Henning of Sand Lake, MI; his sister Ruth (Paul) Dominguez of Mission Viejo, CA; his son James (Tricia) Henning of West Olive, MI; daughter Amy (Allen) Kaminski of Grand Rapids, MI; daughter Tracy Hover (Dale) of Jenison, MI; 5 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday December 2, 2023 from 2pm to 4pm at Westgate Bowl located at 4486 Alpine Ave NW Comstock Park Michigan 49321.
