Robert Shepherd III

“Well done good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23.

Robert Shepherd III, aged 90 of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on April 20^th, 2021.

Bob was born January 18^th, 1931 to Robert and Dena (Pauwee) Shepherd.

He graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School.

He married his soulmate Irene J. Sirney on May 9^th, 1951. This May they would have celebrated their 70^th anniversary.

Bob served in the United States Army.

He was a federal bank examiner with the US Treasuring Department, and examiner with the Michigan State Banking Department and served as an examiner and field supervisor for the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. In 1872, he joined Grand Rapids Mutual Federal Savings and Loan Association as Treasurer and Vice President. Bob was a past Treasurer of the West Michigan Chapter of Financial Education, US League and member of the League’s Financial Manager’s Society.

Bob was a great, humorous and gentle man. He loved his family unconditionally. He will be deeply missed by his loving, devoted wife Irene, his loving “favorite Nurse” daughter Debbie (Shepherd-Bates), and his loving grandsons of whom he was so very proud Daniel S. Bates (Jill Joslin) and Douglas R. Bates (Kristin Rae Bolt), his sisters in law, nieces, nephews and friends.

Per Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A mass celebrating Bob’s life will take place Friday, May 14^th, 2021 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 1935 Plymouth Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI. Visitation one hour prior to the service.
