Rozanne Hager Heydenburg, age 89, of Allendale and formerly of Grand Rapids and West Olive, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 31, 2021.
Rose was born on November 28, 1931 to LZ and Marjorie (Stedman) Hager. She attended Lee High School, Blodgett School of Nursing and then Western Michigan University. Rose married her first love, Jack in 1953 right before he shipped off to the Korean War and they were married for 58 years when he passed. Together, they had three children – Randy, Marla and Lisa.
Rose and Jack were loyal and active members of Trinity United Methodist Church, where Rose loved to sing, play handbells and oboe. She also had a long, meaningful career in healthcare, first as a labor and delivery nurse, then a nurse at New Clinic for Women and finally as a nurse practitioner at the Dorothy Evenson Clinic of Planned Parenthood.
Rose was known as the orchid whisperer. She was intelligent and fun, with an impish sense of humor. She loved her family and friends with her whole heart. She was a kind and caring soul; a person ahead of her time.
She was preceded in death by her parents LZ and Marjorie Hager, husband Jack, son Randy, brothers and sisters-in-law Dean and Rita Hager and Dave and Mary Hager, and her grandson Joel Heydenburg. She is survived by her daughters Marla (Mark) Sluiter and Lisa Harris (Mike Feldmann), daughter-in-law Nancy Cook, sister-in-law Anne Hager, grandchildren Nathan Heydenburg, Corinna Heydenburg, Brenna Sluiter, Bethany Sluiter (Trevor Dirheimer), Adam Harris and Danielle (Kevin) Yahne, three great grandsons, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial will be held this spring at Trinity United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Trinity United Methodist Church music program or to Emmanuel Hospice would be appreciated.
